Heart breaking. Is there a specific reason for them to spay/ neuter them before killing?

They were asked that question at last Board Meeting. They said they do it so when they’re fostered/adopted they can get them out of the shelter faster, reducing their exposure to all the communicable diseases there. In other words, we have to save them from the danger we pose to them…unless we kill them anyway. Makes no sense.
